South Side theft

When Ronald Clark returns to Arizona, he'll have one heck of a story to tell about the one that got away. Unfortunately for the angler, his tale of woe will be about a thief, not a fish.

Clark told police he was staying at Microtel Inn & Suites, 3343 Gateway Ave., when someone broke into his 2002 Ford Excursion overnight Sunday.

The vehicle's rear, passenger-side window (worth $500) was smashed. Fishing equipment worth $3,500 was taken from the truck, according to a report by Pueblo police Cpl. William Wells.

Another guest at the hotel, Mike Thurman, told police someone broke into his 2006 Ford F-150 pickup overnight Sunday as well. Thurman reported $500 stolen from the center console.

South Side Burglary

Tools and jewels worth more than $6,300 were stolen during the past week from an unoccupied home.

Julie Nicola told police the house had been vacant for about a week until Monday, when Nicola arrived to discover the property was missing, according to a report by Pueblo police officer Kimberly Polk.

Various hand and power tools were taken from the garage. A pearl necklace was stolen from inside the house in the 1500 block of Cypress Street.

North Side woman interrupts a would be dog thief

This would-be dog thief was certainly no cat burglar.

A Pueblo woman told police she watched at 8 p.m. Sunday, when the bungling trespasser tried to corral her miniature pinscher, according to a report by Pueblo police Cpl. Richard Valencia.

The woman told police that an unfamiliar black car parked in the alley behind her home in the 2500 block of Sixth Avenue. A man she didn't recognize exited the car and entered her yard.

The suspect chased the dog briefly before falling over a birdbath as he reached for the canine. The pratfall must have done him in, as he gave up his quest to steal the dog, returned to his car and left.
